Crispy Chicken Honey Wings and Spicy Potato Wedges

I remember the first time that I made chicken honey wings, they were spicy and loaded with soy sauce. This recipe has evolved since then. The texture is crispier, thicker and spicier. Good for a light lunch and absolutely divine when served with spicy potato wedges.

Here’s what you’ll need. .

Crispy Chicken Honey Wings (Serves 4):

Chicken Marination:

12 skinless chicken wings
1 tbsp red chili sauce
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp vinegar

For the Batter: 

1/4 cup rice flour
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
4 tbsp corn flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp ground sugar
1 egg
and water to mix
oil, for frying 

For the Honey Sauce:

3 tbsp honey
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp garlic-ginger paste
1 tsp green chili, sliced
4 tbsp water
1 1/2 tbsp corn flour

 Spicy Potato Wedges:  

4 large potatoes, unpeeled and cut into 6 wedges, each
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp red chili powder
2 tbsp bread crumbs
2 tbsp oil


First off, marinate your chicken and leave it in the fridge for about two hours. Then, whisk together the batter ingredients, adding enough water so that the batter is neither too thick nor too runny. Set aside.

Then, put all the ingredients for the honey sauce (except the corn flour and water), in a sauce pan and bring it to a boil. Mix together the corn flour and water in a glass and add to the sauce. Turn off heat, as soon as it thickens. Set aside.

For the wedges, grease a baking tray with butter or oil (you don’t want the wedges to stick to the tray). Boil your potato wedges with the salt till almost cooked through. Toss them with the oil, bread crumbs and red chili powder. Line them on the tray with the skin side up and bake under the grill till crisp and golden. It will take about 20  mins.

Finally, heat up some oil for deep frying. Take the marinated chicken wings and deep fry them over medium heat, six minutes on each side or until golden brown. Dip in the tangy honey sauce and serve with spicy wedges.

So simple and so delicious! You will be licking your fingers, guaranteed.
